Wellness with Purpose newsletter by Dr. Vin

I’d like to explain some changes in some of the emails you’ll be getting from us.

You may have noticed last week that you received an email from “Dr. Vin” instead of “Kayla and Vin.”

Don’t worry, Coach Kayla hasn’t gone anywhere. She’s still the main force behind the attentive and compassionate coaching we’re proud to provide our clients.

I’m just the science geek in the background, providing guidance for more advanced client needs, and making sure our coaching adheres to sound, science-informed principles.

But I also do most of our writing (with Kayla’s input, of course).

One of the many great things about us working together is that our biggest strengths are big enough and different enough that, together, we’re kind of like a superhuman!

But seriously, I bet you’d much rather read relatable stories about the struggles and benefits of healthy living instead of encyclopedia-like descriptions of what to eat and how to exercise, right?

Those relatable stories are difficult to write from a common voice representing multiple people. So, now you’re stuck with me!

You’ll still get some of that encyclopedia-like knowledge (I’m a scientist at heart … and by training … so, I can’t help it!). And you’ll still get some emails from our combined point of view (“Kayla and Vin”).

But going forward, the foundation of this newsletter will be personal anecdotes and insights that you can hopefully relate to and learn from (and maybe even laugh at).

If you’re still with me, you might be thinking “OK, that’s all fine, but why the doctor prefix all of a sudden? Is that really necessary?” (And to be completely clear, I’m a “doctor of philosophy”, as in PhD … a.k.a. science geek, not a medical doctor.)

To be honest, no, it’s not necessary. And if you happen to respond to any of my emails, which I hope you do, please just call me Vin.

But I do want you to see the doctor prefix as a reminder that I value objectivity. I am not interested in creating a false sense of authority by stating opinion or regurgitated information as fact (which I think has become far too common).

Plus, I did bust my ass for four long years to earn that doctor prefix! So, I might as well use it!

I certainly don’t know everything, but I’d like to think that I’m good at presenting my thoughts and opinions objectively – in a manner that reflects whether my opinion is based on strong evidence, is just wild speculation, or falls somewhere in between.

That’s what the “Dr.” in “Dr. Vin” is intended to convey.

And now, you’ll additionally have my personal anecdotes and insights to enjoy and learn from … or roll your eyes at … but hopefully the former!

If you have any feedback on this shift towards making our newsletter more personal and relatable, please share!

To your success,
Dr. Vin
