And how they're an acceptable part of a healthy diet
to you

Coach Kayla is as good of a host as she is a coach and put on a really fun Super Bowl party. (Congrats to Eagles fans … although, as a devoted Giants fan, Kayla may not share that sentiment.)
Days before the party, she offered to order me a gluten-free pizza.
I debated it for a few minutes … do I give in to momentary food pleasure at the potential cost of feeling less than my best, or should I say no to ensure I’ll be fully charged the next day without missing a step?
I gave in to the momentary pleasure … it’s fun to have a treat to look forward to once in a while!
I enjoyed every bite of the pizza. But, of course, when you open the gate of indulgence, it tends to open a bit wider than initially intended … I also ate a lot more Buffalo chicken dip than I needed to.
And … I felt like sh*t the next day.
But this isn’t going where you think it is.
I’m not going to tell you that unideal food choices might cost you. You hopefully already know that. And you probably also realize it’s not always practical to think that way.
To be fair (and objective), there were likely additional factors that contributed to how I felt the next day (and no, I wasn’t hungover). Regardless … for me, I know that overloading on carbs and dairy is not conducive to feeling my best.
But guess what? It’s not a big deal.
I had a great time, got through my day of feeling like crap, and moved on. And, of course, I gave some thought to how I could maybe better navigate a situation like this in the future (being fortunate enough to have friends who invite you to parties makes this a good “problem” to have!).
Even despite the worse-than-expected consequences, not once did I stress out about the choices I made. I knew what I was signing up for.
More importantly, I knew this day wasn’t a big deal because it would be just one blip in a series of many other days that I’d be following my usual routine of consistent choices that are much more conducive to optimizing my health and feeling my best.
How about you?
Are you at peace with your food choices, or do you feel like a prisoner to what you “can” and “can’t” eat, maybe even sometimes being hard on yourself for “bad” choices?
If you want to look and feel your best … and keep it that way, you can’t afford to see good choices as a punishment. Otherwise, instead of feeling proud of the proactive choices you’re making to live better, you’ll feel like a deprived victim, and your motivation will slowly wither away until you’re back where you started.
Coach Kayla knows just as well that what you do and don’t eat should feel like an empowering choice, not a punishment. And here’s an opportunity to get a taste of what it’s like to have her support you through your challenges with food selection.
What’s the one choice that you struggle with the most? Why is it a struggle, and how does it affect your progress?
